What’s
new:
Summary to
the Fourth International
Ocean-Atmosphere Conference
(COAA2007)
The Fourth
International Ocean-Atmosphere
Conference (COAA2007, WOCO2007
inside China), was successfully
held on July 4 - 6, 2007 in
Huanghai Hotel, Qingdao, China.
COAA2007 is one of the trio
conferences hosted in the
International Forum on Marine
Science and Technology and
Economic Development 2007 (8th).
COAA2007 is co-sponsored by the
Chinese-American Oceanic and
Atmospheric Association (COAA),
the Chinese Society of
Oceanography (CSO) and the Chinese
Meteorology Society (CMS).
Bearing COAA’s
vision to promote scientific and
technical communications among
oceanic and climate professionals
around the world, COAA initiated,
coordinated and facilitated the
year-long preparation for the
COAA2007. This conference is a
forum to present the
state-of-the-art science and
technology, to discuss new
developments, and to exchange
ideas among different disciplines
as well as to expand professional
networking. Dr. Norden Huang
(Member of the U.S. National
Academy of Engineering, and Past
President of COAA) and Dr. Yeli
Yuan (Member of the Chinese
Academy of Engineering) co-chair
the COAA2007. COAA president Dr.
Quanan Zheng is the Executive
Chairman to the conference.
COAA2007
convened a multidisciplinary
conference covering 17 topics
including monitoring, prediction,
and understanding of the ocean
variability and its relation to
the climate; the ocean resources
development; and the homeland
earth environmental protection.
There are total of 271
participants to the conference
including 59 from overseas. The
conference received 261 submission
of presentations.
The COAA2007
Organizing Committee would like to
thank all participants, guests and
volunteers to the COAA2007 for
their active participation and all
their efforts to make this
conference such a successful one.
Along the way, this conference is
supported by the Ocean University
of China, Ocean Press, and City of
Qingdao. We cannot thank them
enough for their generosity.
Moreover, the conference would
never even have happened without
the hosting from the First
Institute of Oceanography, State
Oceanic Administration, China, we
sincerely thank them for their
exceptional work. Finally, we
would like to thank each other:
every member of COAA. COAA has
grown tremendously as it enters
its 14th year now with over 400
members worldwide. It is our hope
that the result from this
conference will facilitate
original research on ocean and
atmosphere, and stimulate rich new
thinking on our climate and
environment.
